Highlights

We were involved in a number of legal, contract and immigration matters in the last year, and we were able to successfully complete over 100 projects for various clients and stakeholders. We highlight these below:

Successful Cross Border Collections Cases, Family Law Matters and Labor Disputes

We successfully collected amounts on behalf of our clients, of upto USD 150,000 in some matters. Such amounts were collected by initiating legal processes in the United States and United Kingdom. In addition, we helped manage cross border family law disputes successfully, negotiating the application of GCC family law and Islamic Law principles, with those of the Common Law system, for a number of clients. These clients were nationals of India, the United Kingdom, and other countries. Finally, we consulted with a large number of expatriate employees, with the assistance of local counsel, to solve a number of labor matters in the UAE and Bahrain.

Contractual Projects

We managed a number of major contractual projects, negotiating some deals as high as $2,000,000 USD for clients in the United States, Canada and GCC. We advised clients on due diligence for investments and funding startups, while also assisting a number of startup clients manage and improve their contract documents.

Immigration

We successfully resettled over 10 individuals and families in North America. We have a number of applications currently open as well, and we are looking forward to more success in the coming year. Our current policy is to admit only 12-15 clients per year in this category, because of the high degree of commitment we provide to our clients up until they are resettled successfully.

What to Look out for in 2020!

We are now registered with the USPTO for trademark applications. In addition, we are handling more Intellectual Property related matters, particularly for E-Commerce Businesses. With the advent of Taxation in the Middle East, along with increasing regulation of trade, via Brexit and the US-China tradewars, we have also begun to handle large scale tax, asset and corporate restructuring projects.

Clients residing in the GCC especially, should consider their current asset structure in light of new taxation laws. Those holding assets in other parts of the world could find better ways to improve their tax position. These are all areas which we are now equipped to help our clients with.

The Rise of E-Commerce and the Digital Legal Market

One of the most notable features of 2019, which we believe will continue to develop in 2020, is the digital nature of the legal market. Even court filings can now be filed digitally. However, transactional, advisory and contractual projects can potentially be completed from anywhere in the world, through the development of cloud computing. This means that the legal market is set to become ever more “international,” with more competition globally for business projects. Service providers will need to become more efficient, effective and customer driven if they want to survive and thrive in this new environment!
