 Labor Laws

The legal conditions which are a part of almost everyone’s lives, revolve around their respective labor contract. Due to increased demand and relevance, we now provide extensive information and assistance to individuals who wish to understand their rights in the workplace.

GCC Laws

We receive an increasing number of requests from the GCC region, particularly Bahrain, Dubai, and Saudi Arabia. Below we outline some major factors to consider when negotiating for, or leaving employment in the Gulf Region.

What is my Indemnity?

In most GCC countries it is half a month’s salary for your first three years of employment, and one month’s salary for each subsequent month spent working for an employer. You would also generally be entitled to indemnity on a pro-rata basis for incomplete years. Contact us for a thorough consultation on the matter.

Can my Employer Terminate me?

In most GCC countries, the employer can terminate your employment with notice. However, HOW employment is terminated is of key importance. For example, if no appropriate reason is given for the termination, or the adequate notice period is not given, you could hold the employer accountable for the full contract or a significant penalty. The employer must also pay you during a notice period and for any untaken leaves in most situations. Get in touch for a thorough consultation.

Can my Employer Hold my Passport?

NO. Your passport is your OWN property. The employer is not entitled to keep your passport under any circumstances.

Am I Entitled to any Benefits? i.e. Plane Ticket, Insurance, Bonus?

Usually, benefits are only granted at the discretion of the employer. However, in the Emirate of Dubai, health insurance is mandatory. It is advisable to ask for these benefits when negotiating your contract however, as they are industry standard in most industries!

Are there any Entitlements for Expat Workers Upon Death?

Yes! Depending on the circumstances of the death, the employee’s family may be entitled to wages (i.e. two months), or much more if a workplace accident is involved. If you face this situation (i.e. are a family member), get in touch, our first conversation is free, and we seek to help out as much as possible in these circumstances.

Legal Help

Despite popular opinion, it is often advisable to receive legal help when facing a dispute with an employer. Oftentimes, legal help can result in a much larger sum being awarded to an employee as a result of a dispute. There are also a number of issues, such as work place harassment, overworking employees, and wrongful termination, which can only be sorted out fully through legal channels. We have a strong network of lawyers and consultants who can get in touch to sort out your matter, at a reasonable rate. Click the consultation button above, as our first discussion is always free!
